Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of website or a web page in search engine. SEO target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search and industry-specify vertical search engines. This gives a website web presence.

SEO are specialized techniques used to optimize your web site, to be Search engine friendly and increase your chances of placing well in searches. Learning proper SEO techniques can be like a daunting task, especially to those who are not familiar with the concept.

Here are some important points you should keep in mind when developing and marketing your website.

1. Make sure that your website is initially designed with your search engine optimization needs. The trendiest web designs will mean nothing if no one is able to find your site.

2. Every page of your website has a title tag with text describing either your site or what is on the page. Be sure the text includes SEO-type keywords instead of the name of your website.

3. Every page on your website should include a link to your home page and your site-map. Make sure every link is the same. Home page links should go directly to your domain.Make sure your internal links do not include the additional /index.html or.php text as it is not needed.

4. You will hear the same phrase over and over again: "Content is king". It is imperative that your website have fresh, unique, and quality content that is updated on a regular basis. Be sure to include your favorite keyword phrase within the body of the content!

5. People are more likely to input a phrase instead of a single word when conducting internet searches. Try to use long keywords this will increase the chances of your site being seen in location searches.

3 Voodoo Ninja Jedi Tricks For Personal Trainers Wanting To Master Search Engine Optimisation

Personal Trainers generally fret, or panic over Search Engine Optimization.

They think it is some ninja jedi voodoo slight of hand trick.

Or, that it is some special club that you must pay an SEO expert 10's of thousands of dollars/pounds/euros to be a member of.

Or, maybe it is some magic trick performed by those geeky wizards who've "cracked the code" (BTW, if I use the phrase "cracked the code" in any of my copy, feel free to shoot me!)

Or, even worse it is something that is only possible if you spend every waking minute optimizing, testing and refining to get ranked.

This one post will reveal ONLY what is important, try not to get distracted by what you may have been told before about SEO, what follows comes from my own obsession to find the "right" answers, investing a huge amount of time and money in getting the "right" education to understand this stuff properly.

So here is what is important for SEO:

1. Domain Name
2. Popularity
3. Content

Seriously that is IT!

Anything else you have been told is basically wrong, misleading or dangerous. Let me go through each one in a bit more detail.

Domain Name:

Do NOT think flashy, cool, funky, bizarre, clever, a play on words... None of that helps for SEO

Instead think "Keywords" or more accurately

"What do you want to be found for on Google?"

If you are a personal trainer in the Highgate area of London, you MUST own the domain, personaltrainerhighgate.com That is what your prospects are searching for, Google LOVES exact match domain names and will rank you above more popular sites just because you have the exact keywords in your domain.

(BTW if you are in Highgate, this domain is AVAILABLE at time of writing, go get it guys!)

Popularity:

This is basically how many people visit your site, comment on your content, and link to your site from other places on the web.

Google knows how many people visit your site using Google Analytics (HINT... this must be set up on your website by you)

Google recognises when someone comments on your stuff, and sees that the page is regularly updated (HINT #2 easier done if your site is a BLOG using WordPress)

Google is clever enough to collect data on who links to your site, some links are more valuable than others (HINT #3 make sure you are getting people to link back to your site!)

Google works on an Algorithm, the more links, more visitors, more activity for your site, the higher the score, the higher you appear on Google rankings.

Content:

Basically an extension of popularity. If you produce some good content, more people will visit, comment and link back, creating more visitors, comments and links. So the key here is to produce some damn good stuff people would like to link to.

So you can see this is not about "gaming" the system (Google is way cleverer than you), this is not about about any great magic trick, or secret system!

It's all about people who are looking for your stuff, finding you, liking your stuff and choosing to link to your stuff.

Go buy that domain right now before your competitors do. Then get a WordPress site/BLOG built on to that domain and fill it with your best stuff.

Then do yourself a favour and link back to your site by commenting below to increase your "perceived" popularity (more on that in the next article)

Search Engine Optimisation Outlined in Simple English

So you have just been given a 12 page search engine optimisation campaign proposition, however the only thing you can figure out is how much you will need to fork out from month to month. The other terms are in an unknown language that you've never heard of and consist of words such as page ranking, current position in Google, key phrase demand and competition. simply to point out a few!

Don't lose hope, with this easy SEO article, you'll be able to appear to be a pro soon!

A SEO campaign (search engine optimisation campaign) is aimed at increasing the rankings of a webpage in search engines which would in turn result in more guests (and hopefully more business) to your site.

There are a couple of factors that would have an effect on your positioning on search engines:

Page ranking: Page ranking is a value which is allocated to a webpage based upon how important the search engines find that website to be. This value could be between zero and 10, with zero being a really low pagerank and ten being the greatest possible pagerank. For an internet site to be categorized as important, a page rank of between three and six would be more than acceptable - just a hand full of websites can boast with a page ranking of ten!

Incoming back links: If you have a lot of incoming hyperlinks to your webpage (backlinks from other internet websites to your webpage) this furthermore adds to your websites status and definitely will play an vital role in your search engine rankings.

Keyword research: Prior to a search engine optimisation campaign can begin, it is necessary that proper research is done on your key phrases. The demand (number of searches for your specific search term each month) needs to be weighed against the competition (the amount of sites who competes for the specific key phrase) to decide which keywords are the best to focus on. As an example, if only ten people each month searches for pink polka-dot bikini, and 300 000 websites compete for this search phrase, it would not make sense focusing on this search phrase - the demand is not high enough and the competition too high.

Competitive analysis: This is an analysis of the websites you will be competing against. Their page ranks as well as amount of inbound hyperlinks are two of the variables that will be considered when this research is done.

Current positioning in Google: The existing positioning for a specific search phrase in Google, is the position where your webpage currently shows for the search term in question. Should you be targeting the word insurance, it will be of no use if your webpage only shows up on page twenty five of the insurance results. Internet users seldom searches further than the top 10 results, therefore it is crucial that your website performs well on search engines like Google.

On-site optimisation: This refers to the amount of work that will be necessary to set up your website correctly for SEO purposes. Home page title, key phrases, description tags, meta tags and so on are a handful of important items to check on your existing webpage.

Now that you shall no longer be SEO-uninformed, you can make an informed decision on the search engine optimisation pitch you acquired!

What Is Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization is a process of choosing the most appropriate targeted keyword phrases related to your site and ensuring that this ranks your site highly in search engines so that when someone searches for specific phrases it returns your site on tops. It basically involves fine tuning the content of your site along with the HTML and Meta tags and also involves appropriate link building process. The most popular search engines are Google, Yahoo, MSN Search, AOL and Ask Jeeves. Search engines keep their methods and ranking algorithms secret, to get credit for finding the most valuable search-results and to deter spam pages from clogging those results. A search engine may use hundreds of factors while ranking the listings where the factors themselves and the weight each carries may change continually. Algorithms can differ so widely that a webpage that ranks #1 in a particular search engine could rank #200 in another search engine. New sites need not be "submitted" to search engines to be listed. A simple link from a well established site will get the search engines to visit the new site and begin to spider its contents. It can take a few days to even weeks from the referring of a link from such an established site for all the main search engine spiders to commence visiting and indexing the new site.

If you are unable to research and choose keywords and work on your own search engine ranking, you may want to hire someone to work with you on these issues.

Search engine marketing and promotion companies, will look at the plan for your site and make recommendations to increase your search engine ranking and website traffic. If you wish, they will also provide ongoing consultation and reporting to monitor your website and make recommendations for editing and improvements to keep your site traffic flow and your search engine ranking high. Normally your search engine optimization experts work with your web designer to build an integrated plan right away so that all aspects of design are considered at the same time.
